Cases are always better for any disc, whether it be CD, DVD or blu ray disc. The sleeves scratch the discs. The kind that you buy and burn never seem to be as hard coated as the store purchased ones, and that softer material seems to scratch more easily.

I've burned hundreds and I do store them in the binders that you mention, but they rarely move. So if you put them in these large books and then put them on a shelf, they should be ok. But for something that you travel with, carry in the car etc, they will tend to scratch over time.

Why these companies don't use a better material that won't scratch the discs is beyond me. I'm guessing that it costs a few cents extra for the better material.
